Solve math problems and get 3.14 years of free pizza

The Pizza Hut pizza chain and mathematics professor John Conway announced a contest for mathematics lovers in honor of World Pi Day , which is celebrated annually on March 14, that is, 14.3 or 3.14 in American tradition. Participants in the competition (residents of the United States, including those on the territory of the country using visas and green cards) have the chance to receive a Pizza Hut gift card and the right to receive free pizza for 3.14 years.

Professor Conway is known as the creator of the “Life” cellular automaton and the author of the Doomsday Algorithm , as well as his work on the theory of finite groups, the theory of nodes and the theory of numbers.

Professor Conway composed for the competition three mathematical problems of different levels of complexity: from high school to the level of the candidate of science.

Tasks will begin to publish on March 14 at 8:00 ET (15:00 Moscow time) in the Pizza Hut blog . The contest ends at 11:59 ET (18:59 Moscow time) on the same day. Answers need to be posted in the comments to the blog post. Total will win three prizes: Gift cards worth $ 1600 each.

“Maybe pi is irrational, but there is no free pizza,” added John Conway. “I’m ready to challenge America with these tasks and find another excellent pizza lover who can solve them.”

In general, on pi day, it is customary to prepare pi-horns with the image of the letter π or with the first digits of the number itself.

But pi-tztsa also come down.

Official contest rules are posted here .
