Many types of devices at one time passed through certain stages of development. Since the appearance of the first representatives of the new species, technical characteristics have been developing. New models have more features, work faster, show and play better, etc. Over time, the market is saturated, new models are no longer so different in their technical characteristics. And there comes a new stage in the life cycle of this type of device - manufacturers are beginning to focus on the appearance of gadgets. A similar situation has developed with smartphones and tablets, many of which today are trying to stand out primarily in their design. This is well evidenced by the appearance of the tablet ASUS ZenPad 10.

Appearance
ZenPad 10 can be described as a "gadget accessory." The back panel is made of plastic with a relief texture "under the skin." Below is a strip of smooth plastic, the result is the effect of a small leather folder or bag.

This texture allows you to more reliably hold the tablet. The blessing that he weighs a pound.
At the bottom there is a connector for accessories and a cap under which the slots for the SIM card and the memory card are hidden.

In this case, accessories mean a keyboard-acoustic docking station, which can be purchased bundled with the ZenPad 10.

Also, the tablet is compatible with the proprietary Z-stylus.

The right side is pristine clean.

And on the left side there is a power connector, audio jack and volume control buttons.

Finally, the power button can be found at the top, near the volume buttons. It is conveniently located directly under the index finger, if you hold the tablet in landscape orientation.

The front side along the perimeter is decorated with a silvery frame, beautifully combined with the gray-black case of the tablet.

The frame at a fraction of a millimeter protrudes above the surface of the protective glass. This reduces the chance of scratching if you like to lay the tablet face down on the table.
Along the top face there is a narrow slot, closed by a mesh. Below it are two speakers.

Display
The tablet uses a display with IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1280x800 (149 dpi). The color rendition is good, the viewing angle is great. Pixel density is not too large, and if you want, you can see them. But this does not affect the comfort of perception of the picture.

Sound
The ZenPad 10 audio system supports DTS HD Premium Sound and Sonic Master. The tablet sounds really decent. Of course, the possibilities of its sound are revealed only in the presence of good headphones. Although the built-in speakers play nicely: you can enjoy listening to even heavy music, despite the lack of low frequencies. And films and games in general go with a bang.
Wireless and cellular
In nature, there are three modifications of the ZenPad 10: Z300CL, Z300CG and Z300C. On the review was the Z300CL. They differ in processors, graphics chips, cameras and capabilities for wireless communication. The first two models - Z300CL and Z300CG - have cellular modules, but Z300C does not. Z300CG can work only in 2G and 3G networks, and Z300CL can also work in LTE. All three models are equipped with WLAN802.11 b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0 modules, and also work in GPS and GLONASS networks.
Performance and Software
The Z300CL version is equipped with a 64-bit
Intel Atom Z3560 quad-core processor running at up to 1.83 GHz. Responsible for the graphics chip
PowerVR G6430 , the second performance in the sixth series. RAM 2 GB, and for storing data allocated 16 GB (available to the user 11). Please note that there are versions with 32 and 64 GB available. You can also insert a microSD memory card.
The operating system uses Android 5.0.1 with a proprietary graphic shell ZenUI.

The tablet is preinstalled with a standard set of ASUS branded applications: Splendid, Share Link, PC Link, Remote Link, Super Note. Also installed MiniMovie (application for creating a slideshow) and Zen Circle (information and entertainment resource for users of ASUS products).
Battery capacity is only 4890 mAh.

For a 10-inch tablet, this is very modest. However, in surfing mode (a journey through sites, music, videos on Youtube) and the average brightness of the display, ZenPad 10 lived 9 hours and 40 minutes. However, I did not resort to performance cuts to save energy. Probably, such longevity was achieved, including, thanks to not the highest resolution of the display, as well as a fairly economical processor.
ZenPad 10 works confidently, does not fly, but does not slow down. According to impressions of work, this is a strong middle peasant: you can play movies and play normal games without any problems. By the way, even with a high load, ZenPad 10 heats up very poorly.
Conclusion
ZenPad 10 in the first place will be of interest to those who do not chase for high resolution and maximum performance. If you just need a tablet with a fairly large screen, good performance, decent running time and no extra bells and whistles, then ZenPad 10 is the most it. On the other hand, by its design it is a poured accessory. So even though this is not a top device, it does not look cheap at all. You do not even need a case to somehow elevate it. Therefore, boldly carry a tablet in your hand at the party, in clubs, and just on the street - you will not look like a geek who can not part with your favorite gadget. Even if it is.
