The Russian Academy of Sciences refutes the rule to accept research papers on diskettes.

Today, on the web at various resources (including Geektimes ), information has appeared that the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) requires young scientists to send scientific publications in Word 6 format and only on diskettes.

In the RAS itself, this information is refuted, Interfax reports. “We do not have computers with floppy disks - where do they come from? We work the same way as you - on modern equipment with modern software, ”the agency quoted the words of the head of the department of the RAS press service Valentina Kameneva.

She argues that the Russian Academy of Sciences does not require applicants of medals and awards of the Russian Academy of Sciences to provide information about themselves on diskettes, nor does it correspond to reality and the requirement to provide scientific publications on these media. In fact, the head of the department notes, journalists also refer to the 2002 situation. It actually says about a 3.5 "diskette, but this media is mentioned along with a CD-ROM, a flash card and a memory card.

“The provision in question was adopted in 2002 and was not revised due to one phrase. There were still floppy disks and the sixth Word. Now, of course, we accept any carriers, ”Kameneva added. It really is. The provision of March 2, 2015 provides that publications are accepted not only on diskette, but also on a CD-ROM, flash card and memory card.
