The US Congress is considering a bill banning government services to buy Apple equipment

David Jolly, a Florida congressman, introduced a new bill that bans federal agencies from purchasing Apple products. This is due to the fact that the company does not cooperate on unlocking the iPhone 5C associated with the terrorist attack that took place on December 2, 2015 in San Bernardino (California), reports arstechnica.com.

"Taxpayers should not subsidize a company that refuses to cooperate in investigating the terrorist attack that killed Americans," he said. “And if the information in the phone can prevent a future attack? After the terrible events of September 11, 2001, every resident of the United States and every company was ready to do everything to prevent terrorist attacks. The time has come for Apple to show that they adhere to this position, ” said Jolly.

Last month, Apple issued a controversial order to create a backdoor for the government, which will allow investigators to access information stored on the terrorist's iPhone. This month, Apple promised to challenge the court's decision.

At the moment, the Jolly bill is unlikely to advance in Congress. Now there are two state bills in California and New York, which seek to ban the sale of phones with encryption. In addition, Apple provides discounts for civil servants, military personnel and their families. US President Barack Obama himself uses the iPad, which in 2011 was presented to him personally by Steve Jobs.
