
Here I will explain how to make
Firefox 3 look similar to
Internet Explorer 7 .
What may need this masquerade? For the sake of experiment or for users in the office who are accustomed to
IE and do not perceive anything else. Or, as in my case, when after reinstalling the system,
IE was installed and the evil admin (you radish, Vadik!) Refused to set
Firefox for me, referring to some rules.
With
IE, I did not suffer for a long time (more than a flying layout and broken scripts are infuriated by a bored new window that opens by clicking on the link
to open in a new one ).
So, first of all I downloaded
Firefox 3.0.1 and installed it in an inconspicuous daddy. I do not have access to the Program Files, because I don’t have admin rights, I’m an ordinary user ... almost.

Installed the
Vista-aero add
-on , this is a major step for visual similarity with
IE , but this theme does not replace the icons and window title.

I used the Resource Hacker program (there is a similar Restorator program) to replace the icons
firefox.exe with the icons from
iexplore.exe . After that, the file name and label can be changed.

The window title is changed to
Windows Internet Explorer using
Nightly Tester Tools .

Favorite so stupidly disabled this menu item in the
Personal Menu , and the item in Help
About Firefox disabled it in the
Menu EditorThat's what I got in the end:

Perfectionists can pick the “intelligent” navigation panel and restore the classic one with the
Oldbar extension or
browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped .

Edit the menu:
Go to ... \ Mozilla Firefox \ chrome, find there a jar with your locale (en_GB.jar?).
Inside this archive there is a file locale \ browser \ browser.dtd.
In it, find the line <! ENTITY bookmarksMenu.label "Bookmarks"> and rename as you like. It also does not hurt to change the bookmarksMenu.accesskey
So almost any line can be changed.
