The end of the era of 3D? Philips and Samsung stop making 3D TVs

A few years ago, 3D technology was at its peak of popularity. 3D TVs, despite the rather high price, dispersed like hot cakes. Companies even began to produce tablets and phones with special screens, giving the impression of a three-dimensional image. It seemed that everything was just beginning.

But over time, the noise around 3D began to subside. In the commercials, where new TV models were shown, the 3D mode was mentioned less and less. True, TVs with 3D still continued to produce, and quite actively. But they bought them all less willingly. And now just two companies, Philips and Samsung, have decided to abandon the production of such TVs. This, if not a death sentence 3D, the beginning of the end.

Samsung representatives explained their actions by saying that a very small amount of content is being released for 3D TVs. In addition, the demand for technology is rather low. Therefore, the South Korean corporation stops spending time and resources on keeping afloat little-needed technology, and begins a massive attack on the production of TV with ultra-high resolution. In addition, the company plans to release a new type of TV screens.

As for Philips, it is generally stated here that 3D is not needed by anyone, and TVs supporting this technology are much more complex than ordinary TVs. That is, they buy such TVs worse than usual, and their production costs the company more.

As for other companies, LG announced a reduction in the share of production of 3D TVs from about 40% (2015) to 20%. And this is despite the fact that the company has invested a lot of money in this technology.

But Sony in general, only two new TV models will support 3D mode. And, by the way, Ultra HD Blu-ray format does not support 3D video.

It is likely that the failure of large manufacturers to support the 3D format can provoke a chain reaction, and other companies will also abandon this technology.

As for the film industry, more precisely, cinemas, here everything is good for 3D. Films of this type continue to be released, and there is no negative dynamics yet.
