Video: hacking the fingerprint sensor Samsung Galaxy S6 and Huawei Honor 7 using a regular printer

Two researchers from the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan have developed a simple and fast way to replace fingerprints - the whole process takes up to fifteen minutes. All hacking equipment costs only five hundred dollars - this is a printer, conductive ink and special paper.

The first phone with a fingerprint scanner was released by Pantech in 2004 - Pantech GI100. The device kept the keys for each of the ten fingers, so that the owner of the gadget could configure the activation of secret numbers when pressing a certain finger. After the scanner installed Apple in the iPhone 5S in 2013, technology gained great popularity. It was used in smartphones Samsung Galaxy, HTC One Mas, Meizu MX4 Pro and others.

For hacking, the researchers used a conventional inkjet printer, three cartridges with silver conductive ink and special paper. You need to get a fingerprint of the owner of the phone, scan it, expand it horizontally and print on the glossy side of the AgIC paper. Then you need to cut the fingerprint and place it on the fingerprint scanner.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Huawei Honor 7 have already been hacked in this way, the researchers said. In this case, Samsung hack was easy, and for Huawei it took more attempts. But in any case, it took fifteen minutes.

The results of the study team published on the website of the university.
