At the moment, all 4 main manufacturers of inkjet home printers have in their arsenal devices with integrated CISS (continuous ink supply system). The last one was its HP solution (in February, two models of the new HP DeskJet GT series were announced). And this year Epson celebrates the 5th anniversary of the Print Factory line (Ecotank abroad). Under the cat more about 4 implementations of the original CISS.
It should be noted right away: we are considering modern home inkjet printers with original CISS.
- Third-party CISS is a system that the user needs to install by himself, and this deprives the user of a warranty for the device.
- The original CISS is a system from the manufacturer of the printer, already built into the device.
In general, CISS always consists of end cartridges, moving tubes (to follow cartridges) and donor ink tanks. In the device of the latter, a design that ensures a stable supply of dye is important, since the cartridges and printheads of home printers are for the most part not able to correct ink pressure, they enter them by “gravity flow”. They are able to more precisely, but in a very narrow range. Most often, “donors” use the principle of
“Mariotta vessel” .
Summary table
For a start - a general table of models with comparable functionality, all of them are 4-color multifunction printers. If I included cheap Canon G1400 or Epson L132 printers in the table, I wouldn’t have been able to find a counterpart from Brother and HP, and they would have looked strangely at a price. Important features are listed in the second line. Prices were collected 1.5 months ago and may differ slightly from current prices.

Epson Print Factory
CISS in the “Factories” - a logical and long-studied construction: separate containers; fairly voluminous damper cartridges in a movable carriage; an ink loop, lined up on the bottom of the printer and coming from above on the carriage on the opposite side from the donor. In the photo - the insides of the L210.
')
In the majority of "Printing Factories" (especially early ones) their cartridge precursors are easily guessed. For example, the popular L800 is the legendary modified P50. Accordingly, within all devices, the piezoelectric PG, Epson Micro Piezo, which is familiar to the manufacturer, has a rather large resource. However, “Printing Factories” are much more likely to get into service centers than their cartridge counterparts due to the fundamentally greater vulnerability of printers with CISS. The main problems are standard: the airing of NG or the ingress of air into the ink plume, clogging of the head due to thickening of the ink.
Brother with integrated slam-shut valves
Brother has always released its printers with fixed cartridges, from which tubes went to the printhead with ink buffer. Just in the T300 / T500 / T700 cartridges made embedded in the case, so the whole design is more like a built-in PZK (refillable cartridges).
Having extensive experience in working with jet manufacturers from this manufacturer, I would like to highlight the following points:
- start pumping GHGs (nozzles) are required less often than on similar Epson
- slow photo printing
- plus lower tray under the paper: no need for a back seat
- minus the paper tray: regular problems with gripping thick paper
- able to perform self-cleaning during long downtimes, so the risk of drying is minimal (the scourge of all inkjet)
- pumping the ink chamber in the printhead for self-repair is an incredibly complicated procedure
In general, I would recommend Brother for the office.
Canon with strange heads
The canister on the Canon has a non-standard arrangement of donor capacities: black is on the left, separately, color is on the right, but the ink loop is standard — right to left and left overlaps on the carriage.
The combined type of ink is also unusual: black pigment + colored aqueous dyes (about the difference). True, the
experiments show that the pigment is dishonest, although it certainly does not float from a drop of water, as on prints from the Printing Factory. On the other hand, the pigment does not like long downtime, if you print on one bank a year (this is quite realistic at home), it begins to settle and thicken, hammering nozzles in the head.
The most interesting thing about Canon is the print heads in the form of regular FINE disposable cartridges. Those most PG-440 or CL-446 to cheap two-cartridge printers, which are thrown away after a run of 10-15 ml. ink (of course you can refill - then there is a chance to “get rid” of another 50-100 ml). Interestingly, the G1400 / G2400 / G3400 tests
showed stable performance even after 300 ml of paint.
HP Printers for India
The GT 5820 and 5810 are identical with the Canon printing system, with the exception of donor containers mounted outside the case.
