Autostart of Loto stratostats in 30 minutes: photo

Google promises in 2016 to bring the number of Project Loon communication stratostats to several hundred pieces and ensure stable access to the Internet via LTE / 4G in the ring around the globe.

Google balloons use that interesting natural phenomenon, that at different heights of 18-27 km in the stratosphere there is a different wind direction, and the wind speed often exceeds 100 km / h, and the flow is quite constant. The vehicles controlled from the Earth change the height in a cunning manner and, thus, are directed in the necessary direction .

Each balloon is powered by three solar cells and revolves around the earth for 100 days or more, providing a connection in an area of ​​approximately 80 km in diameter.

Google made a significant step towards this goal this month when it mounted one of the Chicken Little cranes to automatically launch stratostats at the site in Puerto Rico.

The crane with a height of 16.7 meters was installed and checked in Wisconsin (USA), then it was packed and shipped to Central America. There he was re-assembled - and now they had a successful launch of several test balls.



Chicken Little is one of several portable cranes that will automatically fill, lift into the air and launch Project Loon stratostatos at different latitudes of the globe. The start up procedure takes less than 30 minutes. For maintenance of each crane requires only two appliances, which can be seen in the photo.



Such cranes can be delivered and installed everywhere, then the coverage of the “stratospheric Internet” from Google will expand to almost the entire Earth. To start this year, the service will be launched in some areas of South America, West Africa and Asia.
