The General Contractor LLC ChCD Engineering
started the active phase of construction work at the construction site of the largest Russian Data Processing and Storage Center near the Kalinin NPP (Tver region).
On February 24, 2016, the first cubic meter of concrete was laid at the base of one of the buildings of the complex. The first phase of the data center will be commissioned in March 2018.
“This will be the largest data center in Russia, in which it is planned to place up to 8,000 IT racks,” said Nuclear Director Mikhail Kanyshev. “The facility will provide large corporations with a range of IT services for the protection of personal data and the storage of necessary information, thereby contributing to improving the information security of the Russian Federation.”

The data center will occupy an area of 8.5 hectares. It will house three storage facilities, an administrative building, a checkpoint, and a substation. The data center is owned by Rosenergoatom Concern JSC (a subsidiary of Rosatom State Corporation).
“Today will be a real starting point for the execution of those schedules and obligations that are assigned to the Kalinin NPP,” commented the beginning of concreting the foundation, Mikhail Kanyshev.
The proximity of the data center to the NPP is due to the need to provide it with a reliable source of power supply. The first phase of the data center has a capacity of 48 MW (with the possibility of expansion up to 80 MW), and then construction will continue.
Kalinin NPP, 4th power unitThe State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom has already
offered to use this platform to the giants of the IT industry, Google and Facebook, which are currently violating the norms of the Russian Law on Personal Data. Here they will get a ready-made data center with very cheap electricity.
