The exhibition stands in Barcelona and Nuremberg feature SF-BT1 processor modules based on the “Baikal-T1” processor.

Welcome our dear readers to the pages of the blog iCover ! As part of the exhibition events at MWC 2016 and Embedded World, held in Barcelona and Nuremberg, the processor module SF-BT1, created by engineers of the domestic company T-Platforms, was presented at the stands of the developer Imagination Technologies. The module is based on the “Baikal-T1” processor of “Baikal Electronics” company and is positioned as a key element of the ecosystem for promising embedded equipment. As its creators promise, SF-BT1 will make life easier for developers.

The development of the T-Platform was presented at the exposition of Baikal Electronics, organized jointly with Imagination Technologies. The capabilities of the SF-BT1 modules for creating secure network equipment, IoT devices and other embedded systems were demonstrated.

Purpose of SF-BT1

The SF-BT1 processor module is based on the SMARC v1.1 specification and is intended for developers of industrial automation systems, network and computing equipment, automated transport control systems, medical equipment and other devices based on the “Baikal-T1” processor. The module has memory and all I / O interfaces and can be used as a ready-made “building block”, which allows to significantly speed up and cheapen the development of equipment based on “Baikal-T1”. In addition to it, it is enough to develop a carrier for a specific project, taking into account the necessary functionality of the system being created. Thus, the use of modules allows developers, on the one hand, to maximize the potential of “Baikal-T1”, on the other - to save time and effort to perform time-consuming dilution of interfaces, power lines and many auxiliary components on the printed circuit board.

The processors “Baikal-T1”, which form the basis of the modules, are executed on the MIPS architecture in accordance with the requirements of the 28 nm process technology. Therefore, the modules are aimed at developers of embedded equipment, for which the compactness and energy efficiency of computing components are no less important than the performance and the ability to integrate devices into a network.

The SF-BT1 module can be connected to external active devices via 10GbE and GbE, USB, PCIe interfaces. It is possible to connect sensors, relays and other end equipment (GPIO, UART, I2C, SPI). For diagnostic and debugging events, JTAG and EJTAG interfaces are provided. Processor modules SF-BT1 can be equipped with from 2 GB to 8 GB of RAM and be equipped with non-volatile memory. The SF-BT1 compact processor module, based on the SMARC v.1.1 specification, works as part of the Resurs family of CNC platforms and other products from the new T-Platforms line based on Baikal-T1 processors.

Recall that the dual-core processor “ Baikal T1 ”, created by the specialists of “Baikal Electronics”, is the world's first hardware implementation of the MIPS Warrior P5600 core. Thanks to hardware support for virtualization embedded in the processor, it is possible to use the “Security by Separation” approach and organize parallel operation of several guest OSs in a virtual machine. In this case, hardware support for virtualization on the processor can significantly increase the degree of protection of the created systems.

Among the advantages of the processor, developers call:

* Wide range of integrated communication interfaces
* Support for SIMD superscalar instructions
* High performance per watt per watt
* Quick access to RAM with Error Correction System (ECC)
* DMA dedicated channels for each interface
* Disk subsystem with high bandwidth.

The use of SF-BT1 processor modules in a special way optimized software systems reveals fundamentally new possibilities in creating enhanced security network equipment for IoT and other equipment oriented to work in network environments. The developers included all the necessary technical documentation and software package. Partners and customers who purchase products of the company, the developers promise the possibility of obtaining extended support: detailed advice based on the experience gained in creating devices based on the “Baikal-T1” processor, including advice on how to adapt the processor module and software to customer needs, assistance in development and testing.

In a press release published on the company's website, it is noted that SDK demo kits with SF-BT1 modules for 2 GB of memory, but without flash memory and a test carrier board are available for order to date. The first four SDKs have already been purchased by T-Platform partners, Imagination Technologies. The production of SF-BT1 modules will be launched in Russia.

Deliveries will start from the beginning of the second quarter of 2016, deliveries of large quantities - from the third quarter of 2016. As the developers have announced, it is also possible to develop an individual configuration of the processor module in accordance with the specific requirements of the customer.
