Google Robot crashes into a bus in California

Today it became known that the Google Mobile Corporation has run into a bus on the road. This accident could be the first accident caused by Google’s robotic car (until that moment, accidents involving smart cars of the corporation had happened, but other drivers and vehicles were usually responsible for the accidents).

The accident occurred on February 14 in Mountain View , California, but it became known only now. Google Inc. immediately reported a problem to the California State Department of Motor Vehicles. Before the accident, the car was moving at a speed of 3 km / h, the bus speed reached 23 km / h. No injuries.

The report does not clearly indicate the perpetrator of the accident. However, Google points out that the roaming mobile tried to avoid certain obstacles on the road, and during one of the maneuvers the car collided with a bus.

The “reserve” driver, who at that time was in a ro-mobile, thought that the bus would give way to the car, and did nothing to prevent collisions. If it is proved that the smart car is the cause of the accident, it will be the first time that a car is provoked by an automatic control system from Google.

Today, officials should discuss what happened with representatives of the corporation in order to understand what went wrong.

Now Google is testing about two dozen Lexus SUVs in California, equipped with various sensors and cameras.

Accidents involving Google cars have happened, and more than once (about 12 cases). But in all previous accidents, other cars and drivers were the culprit for the incident, and not the robomobi themselves. Now Google has already recognized the partial responsibility for the accident.

The company's engineers have already changed the software of the roboMob so that the cars “understand” - the likelihood that the bus will miss the robot or stop is not too high, this probability is lower than in the case of other vehicles.
