Ardumower: make an automatic lawn mower with your own hands

German engineer Andreas Hauser [Andreas Haeuser] offered an interesting and inexpensive alternative to electric lawn mowers, which cost starts at $ 1,000. For only $ 12 in his store, you can buy instructions and files necessary for the self-production of such a device, he called Ardumower. For this you need an Arduino and a 3D printer.

The device, according to the assurances of the developer , is made in such a way that even an inexperienced person in engineering matters could assemble it. Using the Arduino Uno and the Arduino motorboard makes wiring easy. A printer with a working area of ​​at least 180 x 180 x 60 mm is suitable for printing.

The car mower moves thanks to two 12V-motors, and the third is used for the work of the cutting disc. Energy sources are batteries. In order for the mower to recognize the boundaries of the plot, it will initially be necessary to erect a special wire fence.



The mower has feedback and is able to go around obstacles. On one charge of a typical battery, it is able to serve up to 500 sq.m. territory. If you need to mow large areas, you can take care of installing an additional battery or creating an additional Ardumower.
