This post from the series "feel old." Quite unexpectedly famous strategy "Civilization" turned 25 years old. Since its release in 1991, a quarter of a century has passed, and now the toy represents one of the cultural artifacts of the game, something that is recognizable by almost everyone.
Despite its age, the series flourishes. Already, 33 million copies of various versions of “Civilization” have been sold, including 8 million for “Civilization V”, published in 2010. Meyer’s team has released 66 different toy versions for all platforms. If you extrapolate the level of sales of the game on Steam, it turns out that “Civilization” was played over a billion times.
In 2008, the developers decided to release a mobile version of the game, Civilization Revolution. The toy did not become a “platinum” hit, but received its share of popularity. The popularity of the series itself is largely due to the support of the community of gamers - there are a lot of fans of “Civilization”. “A lot of their ideas and energy got into the game,” says Meyer.

Civilization: Beyond Earth seems like a very beautiful game ... until those monsters start you thereWith the game and spend quite interesting experiments. For example, recently gamers wondered what would happen if 42 nations put up a battle in Civilization V right away? The answer to the question was a real experiment, where 42 civilizations set to fight against each other in Civilization V, calling this battle "
Battle Royale ".
Generally speaking, fans of “Civilization” make quite interesting experiments. For example, the results of an
11-year battle , the longest in the world of this game (and 11 years - the real time of the Earth, and not the game), were published not so long ago.
Presumably, the series will exist and will be popular for a very long time. Maybe we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of “Civilization”, who knows?
