Tesla Motors: GM is lobbying a bill banning us from selling electric cars in Indiana

Tesla Motors has long been fighting the laws of some US states, where direct sale of cars to customers is prohibited. In some states, Tesla wins, in other carmakers and dealers, who do their best to prevent direct sales. Tesla had problems with the legislative lobby of dealers in states such as Arizona, Texas, Virginia, New Jersey. Now there is a problem of a similar character in Indiana.

This state is considering a bill that would prohibit car manufacturers from owning another dealer license. Tesla Motors has a license that allows a company to sell electric cars to its customers in Indiana directly. Tesla does not want to work with dealers for many reasons, including purely commercial ones - it is unprofitable for dealers themselves to spend forces on the sale of electric cars, getting a minimum margin at the output.

Now Tesla Motors asks its customers to contact the senators, expressing dissatisfaction with the new bill. Hearings on it will be held March 25 this year. “Despite the fact that we have the legal right to license the sale of electric vehicles, starting in 2014, despite our $ 42 million investment in the state economy in the form of buying parts and spare parts from local manufacturers, despite our plans to create the largest Tesla Service, which will give work to many residents of the state, is requested by GM to close Tesla to the Senate, ”the company writes in its official statement.

According to the representative of Tesla Motors, so far the company has no problems with the sale of electric vehicles in the state. But they will surely arise if the bill, which was discussed above, is adopted.

At the same time, GM (General Motors) confirmed the support of the HB 1254 bill: “GM supports HB 1254. GM believes that all industry participants should work according to the same rules and requirements regarding how we sell, service and promote our products ... Defending Tesla's special rights can lead to the fact that different manufacturers competing with each other ... will have the opportunity to work according to different rules. Tesla may use a franchising dealership scheme with an independent operator in Indiana now, but instead they insist that the state should provide them with the opportunity to work on unique rules and special exceptions that will support their business interests. ”
