Hi, Giktayms! You can't catch a sparrow with a chaff, and it is almost impossible for an experienced piece of iron to prove the benefits of an integrated core and high-frequency RAM. Nevertheless, in 2015, a significant breakthrough in Intel graphics was made and under the cat I propose to evaluate how much the frequency of the RAM affects the performance of the GT3e graphics core (also known as Iris Pro 6200) integrated into the Intel Core i7-5775C processor.
Obviously, the RAM for the integrated graphics is video memory. It is logical to assume that the more productive the RAM, the higher will be the performance of the graphics subsystem. Why do you need it? Everything is very simple, for monoblocks, compact home solutions (like media centers or computers constantly connected to TV), dimensions, noise level and performance of all nodes without exception are important.

The fifth generation of Intel Core processors became famous not only for the fact that there were only two SKUs in the desktop segment, but also for the fact that for the first time in the desktop segment the user was offered
Iris Pro 6200 Graphics - the best integrated graphics from Intel. It has long been known that AMD's “insertion” loves the frequency of RAM, was there a reason to check a similar argument for a competitor? Will increasing the memory frequency increase the performance of the graphics subsystem?
To test my hypotheses, the following test bench was assembled.

There are three scenarios of work: default settings - DDR3-1600, HyperX Fury DDR3L-1866, HyperX Savage DDR3-2133, HyperX Savage DDR3-2400.
The test suite of applications includes synthetic tests, 3D Mark, CatZilla, AquaMark3, Unigine Heaven and games - Resident Evil 6 and Metro: Last Light Redux.
3D Mark
Classic test package from the Finnish company Futuremark. For today's test of interest, the presets Cloud Gate and Sky Diver, since they are focused on the systems of medium and low power.

Catzilla

Unigine Heaven Basic preset

Aquamark3

Resident Evil 6

Metro: Last Light Redux

What can be seen from the graphs? The most obvious conclusion - the performance of integrated graphics depends on the frequency of RAM directly.
For convenience of perception, I will consolidate information into a single table.
| HyperX DDR3-1600 | HyperX DDR3L-1866 | HyperX DDR3-2133 | HyperX DDR3-2400 |
---|
3D Mark Sky Diver | 6276 | 6302 / 0.4% | 6427 / 2.4% | 6560 / 4.5% |
3D Mark Cloud Gate | 12881 | 12919 / 0.3% | 13046 / 1,3% | 13295 / 3.2% |
CatZilla 720p | 4445 | 4604 / 3.6% | 4809 / 8.2% | 4993 / 12.3% |
Unigine Heaven Basic | 1143.389 | 1152.125 / 0.8% | 1207.473 / 5.6% | 1221.46 / 6.8% |
AquaMark 3 | 272704 | 274732 / 0.8% | 286998 / 5.2% | 294301 / 7.9% |
Resident Evil 6 | 2511 | 2573 / 2.5% | 2669 / 6.3% | 2701 / 7.6% |
Metro Last Light Redux | 34.00 | 34.67 / 2.0% | 35.67 / 4.9% | 36.33 / 6.9% |
The difference between DDR3-1600 and DDR3-2400 on average is about 7 percent, which is not a very significant value if we are talking about the performance of a discrete graphics card. In the case of a compact integrated solution, this increase will be a good help. An even more significant increase in performance will be in the case of overclocking RAM on its own. The difference in price between simple memory and high-frequency is perceptible, so I recommend keeping the balance and not chasing the numbers 3000 MHz, but below 2133 MHz, if you intend to make a fairly fast system with integrated graphics, do not fall.
By the way, in the measurement process, I discovered for myself that the
Iris Pro 6200 obviously surpasses all previous Intel counterparts. I didn’t manage to play FullHD, even if not with the maximum settings in Metro Last Light, but here it is more than 30 frames per second on average ... It’s very interesting if Intel will not abandon this development path, because we can see a new round in the development of all components , the effect of RAM on compact systems will increase even more, the bandwidth of DDR4 will only contribute to this.
