Microsoft closes Skype Qik - video messaging application

Microsoft closes the Skype Qik service that was launched just a year and a half ago - its functions are already available on Skype. In the official Skype blog , the company confirmed that March 24, 2016 will be the last day of Skype Qik and justified its decision by not seeing the point in a separate application.

“In 2014, we launched Skype Qik, a mobile video messaging application, so you can share your life moments with friends. Subsequently, we learned that many already use Skype for these purposes, so we have integrated some of the most frequently used features of the Qik application into Skype, ”commented the company.

This is the second time the Qik application is closed - Microsoft abandoned the original Qik service in April 2014, several years after the acquisition. A separate video messaging application has been released for Windows Phone, Android and iOS. A distinctive feature of Qik was that it was created solely for the transfer of video. A phone number was used to activate the account.

Users must keep their videos before March 24, otherwise they will lose access to received messages, reports The Verge.
