Ozon took up e-books

On Tuesday, the company Ozon.ru announced the beginning of sales of electronic books through its online store. The current assortment includes a little more than 1,000 titles collected in the subsection of the general book catalog. All files are sold at prices ranging from 30 (most) to 80 rubles. Audiobooks being downloaded on a virtual shelf are up to 200 rubles.

As the main difference Ozon.ru from all its competitors in the field of trade in digital books stated, as you can guess, the purity of the law. All lots are sold exclusively with permission and in collaboration with copyright holders. By the way, it is precisely the lack of regulation of the domestic legislation in the field of copyright that caused the delay in starting the shipment of e-books: according to the plan, it was supposed to start in May.

Interestingly, the downloaded files are not protected from copying by any tricky mechanisms, except for the user agreement , which, however, imposes serious restrictions. According to them, a buyer can read a purchased book only on his own equipment, only in Russia and without third-party access to it through the Internet.

Back in March, we wrote about Google Book Search, a Russian-language service. Since its launch, the service has hardly changed: it is looking only for stocks of Western libraries and a few Russian publishing houses, the pages with book descriptions are filled with very scant information and its overall usefulness tends to zero. The only impetus in development can be given by the will of leadership and cooperation with interested business. That is, of course, with booksellers.

And it seems that this push will be made soon. On the question of whether Ozon is going to cooperate with Google here, the PR director of the store, Mikhail Yatkovsky, said that “such a possibility is being discussed and quite likely”.
