Bot lawyer won $ 3 million cases

18-year-old British IT-student Joshua Browder (Joshua Browder) in August last year opened the site donotpay.co.uk , which helps car owners automatically create and send an appeal to the receipt of the fine. On their own, people cannot do this, because the procedure is difficult for many, and the services of lawyers almost always exceed the amount of the fine.

In just six months, the bot lawyer helped to return fines of more than 2 million pounds ($ 3 million). The site was used by 86 thousand people, and almost 40% of the appeals were successful. The author of the project itself was very surprised that the bot is so popular.

“When I ran DoNotPay, I assumed that it would help a small number of friends and relatives. I never could have imagined that million-dollar fines would be returned with it, ”says Browder.

Joshua himself began programming at the age of 12, and the idea to launch a website with an appeal program came after he had received three dozen receipts for fines several months after receiving a driver's license.

On the site, people indicate some information about themselves and choose one of 12 reasons why they dispute the fine. The whole procedure takes no more than 30 seconds.

It is known that the city authorities receive a good income, collecting fines from motorists. It is not surprising that fines are often written out to everyone without suitable grounds. In the UK, authorities collect car fines of about a billion dollars a year, equivalent.
