Roskomnadzor plans to regulate online games
The head of Roskomnadzor, Alexander Zharov, announced the organization’s intention to regulate online games. Now the department is exploring various options for regulating this sphere, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes . Zharov claims that this problem is a state-level problem.
“Roskomnadzor works with experts from the Internet Development Fund, St. Petersburg State University and other organizations to develop approaches to regulating this issue. But we do it very carefully and delicately and the specifics are not yet ready to voice, ”said the head of the department.
In his opinion, online games are a field where a “special approach” is required. There are several reasons for this. “Firstly, websites that are interactive sites for players got into the register of prohibited information a couple of times because there was illegal information, most often suicide propaganda,” says Zharov. Removing illegal information from game resources is a matter of time, but this requires a lot of effort by representatives of the department. Another problem is the difficulty of establishing contacts with the owners of game resources.
"Sometimes it gives the situation a public status - then through the activity of the users themselves, information about a possible blocking comes to the administration of the resource, and our requirements are fulfilled," Zarov noted.

The head of Roskomnadzor believes that online games are "information products": "First, they invite the player to a certain interactive world, where he a) consumes information, b) begins to try on the role model."
He also added that games are an isolated ecosystem, where interaction between players goes online. “In Paris, the terrorists organized their communications not only through encrypted messengers, but, as far as I know, via PlayStation4 [there were such rumors, but they were denied - approx. Ed.], where it is impossible to determine whether the appeals to shoot and kill are related to the events of a virtual game or a real terrorist attack, ”Zharov said.
