Rutracker advised Roskomnadzor to go to the bright side and denied the possibility of closing the project

On Geektimes it has already been written that Roskomnadzor gave Rutracker no more than a few months of work, predicting the imminent closure of the project due to the outflow of advertisers. According to representatives of the department, after blocking the resource in Russia, the attendance of the tracker falls, advertisers go. In the end, according to the head of Roskomnadzor, Alexander Zharov, the project will become unprofitable and close.

The administration of Rutracker has a slightly different opinion on this, writes Slon. The project team has denied the possibility of closing the tracker due to a lack of advertisers.

“Mr. Zharov proceeds from the fact that Rutracker is a business that, having lost part of the profit, becomes unprofitable and closes. I hasten to disappoint all who hold this point of view: alas, this is not so. Rutracker is a non-commercial project <...> Even if we don’t have a single banner, Rutracker will not close, as Wikipedia does not close, which doesn’t have any banners on the pages, ”the project administrator said.

In addition, the same representative of the torrent tracker team said that the project was repeatedly offered financial support, and advised Roskomnadzor "to go to the bright side, paying more attention to the interests of citizens, to whose taxes it exists, and not to the traffickers."

This statement was made in response to Zharov’s proposal for Rutracker to “go to the bright side,” starting to comply with the laws of the Russian Federation.
