Does technology help in learning a foreign language?

In the comments to the article “ How I started to learn English ” several times various programs for memorizing words (electronic cards) were indicated as recommendations. It seems to me that this is exactly the case when we get the opposite effect from various means designed to simplify life and shorten time. Further IMHO, which may be erroneous and therefore I will be grateful for the amendments.

The process of manually writing the word has an important meaning. All the old "old-fashioned" methods have one common point, namely, the manual recording of the word. Words are written on objects, stickers, in personal dictionaries, etc. When we write a word, several processes occur.

Firstly, we repeat it several times on an irresponsible level, perhaps some people even pronounce (it has been established that people who read slowly speak words to themselves).

Secondly, when we write, we create the “image” of the word and memorize it, and the brain remembers the movements of the hand produced during the recording. This is called motor memory, if I'm not mistaken. In most programs, this action is absent, because I want to achieve results faster, making less effort and not wasting time on such a boring process as adding words.

There is no universal way of learning a language / vocabulary, since each person has a different type of memory and it is his most effective use. Someone better assimilates information in text form, someone in the audio, someone in the figurative.

And here is an example, when technology can do good service

When I started just listening to podcasts, one thought occurred to me. I do not know whether she expressed in the comments, did not master. We take a list of words, sentences with translations and make an entry for ourselves with the translation. The main thing is to clearly and correctly speak the words. You can also take a dictaphone with you to class with a tutor in order to train your pronunciation at home, I think the tutor will not mind. We throw ourselves on the iPod or another player, listen and repeat our own record instead of, for example, the same podcast Rosnovsky Park.

Perhaps there is still worth popiarit social network for learning the language . The network allows you to find a person who is a native speaker and already study with him through personal correspondence or voice communication via Skype .
