Internet traffic will exceed zettabyte this year

Internet traffic continues to grow. Now the rapid growth is caused by the increasing popularity of mobile devices, reports Cisco Systems, the world's largest supplier of routers that make up the Internet infrastructure. The company predicts that this trend will continue in the future and in 2019 the volume of traffic will double again.

The forecast is made in a Cisco Visual Networking Index report published recently. This is a study of global trends on the Internet. According to him, in 2016, the Internet traffic will exceed one Zettabyte, and in 2019 - two Zettabyte.

If anyone does not know, Zettabyte is 2 ⁷⁰ bytes or 1024 exabytes, or a billion terabytes, or a trillion gigabytes.

As already mentioned, the main driver of growth is mobile devices. According to Cisco estimates, 5.5 billion people will have mobile smartphones or tablets by 2020, that is, about 70% of the world's population. Naturally, they all want to connect to the web.

By 2020, more people will have mobiles than owners of cars that have electricity and water in the faucet. In connection with this forecast, the question arises: I wonder how they will charge the smartphone - from the neighbors?

In Africa and the Middle East, the annual increase in traffic is maximum: 44%, in Central and Eastern Europe - 33%. Asian countries generate the maximum amount of traffic - just over 54 exabytes per month, but grow more slowly: by 21% per year. North America's performance is 50 exabytes per month and an increase of 20%.
