Picasa begins to recognize faces in photos

Today at 23:00 Moscow time, the online photo service Picasa Web Albums will be updated . Among other innovations, face recognition feature will appear on the photos. The entire archive of digital images will be automatically scanned, and a special page will be generated for the user with all persons that were found, with a proposal to enter the name of each person.

If one person is present in many photos, Picasa will determine this, so each name will need to be entered only once. The page displays fragments of all photos where this face is present.



When a certain database of names accumulates in the system, then it starts to work already in semi-automatic mode, independently recognizing and naming the faces in each photo. The journalist who tested the system in action says that he drove 200 people into the base with about a hundred photos in just 15 minutes.

The developers claim that the placement of photo captions is extremely exciting and even addictive.
