Golden roundels

Once again, a large corporation becomes a victim of a brisk counter, which has a long-prepared trump card from its sleeve. On August 20, Sony was summoned to court on a patent infringement law on “round-shaped media carriers”, now owned by Orinda. As these dexterous businessmen from the suburb of San Francisco considered, absolutely everything that uses Blu-Ray technology violates the patent filed in 1993 by Korean Hyundai. The text of the patent accurately describes the principle of operation of almost all modern optical disks.

The lawsuit was filed in the now legendary federal court in Marshall, East Texas, where he will be considered by the equally legendary judge T. John Ward, whom the press has already dubbed "the main friend of patent trolls." What is not surprising: in 10 years of his practice in cases of patent disputes, in almost 100% of cases he passed a verdict in favor of the plaintiff.

This time, the “injured party” claims include an injunction against the entire range of goods labeled with Blu-Ray, as well as a three-fold compensation for commercial damage (not to mention court costs). Whether the distinguished representative of the law will break its impressive series of unpopular decisions, we will find out a little later. Fortunately, Judge Ward does not have the habit of delaying consideration of cases.
