Nvidia Unveils Details on Tegra Chip

In June, Nvidia announced a unique product: integrated ARM processors for mobile devices Tegra 600 and 650. These are SoC chips that integrate several specialized computing cores and all the necessary peripheral logic. It will be a serious competitor to Intel Atom processors, while having excellent performance. The mini-laptop on Tegra will be able to display up to 10 (!) Hours of HD video, play up to 100 hours of MP3, or hold up to five hours of 3D video games without recharging the batteries.

The other day, engineers from Nvidia spoke at the Hot Chips conference in Stanford and gave details about their development.

It is ultra low power consumption - the main feature of Tegra chips. Nvidia engineers reported that in HD demo mode, miniature chips consume far less than 200 milliwatts. The top Tegra 650 supports 1080p video stream at 24 frames / s, as well as video with resolutions up to 1680x1050 in MPEG-4, H.264 and VC1 formats with bitrates up to 20 Mbps.

At first, Tegra chips will appear in personal media players, and already in 2009 - in mini-laptops and expensive mobile phones. This phone can be connected to a widescreen TV and watch movies in the highest resolution possible. Five hours of playing Quake 3 on a mobile phone are also expensive.
