Beauty will save the barcode

On Habré already discussed the useful properties of two-dimensional bar codes and fantasized about how beautiful the world would be if you sculpt them on T-shirts, caps, and also pin on the body. On the one hand, this is true, if it were not for one “but” - modern barcodes look awful. They are ugly. Given that they are the door to the fourth informational dimension, they look like informational garbage.

Initially, barcodes were intended for operational processing. They worked with warehouse workers, cashiers and other machines. But when this technology began to be promoted to the consumer market , the aesthetic properties of barcodes began to come to the fore.

Interesting solutions with graphic inserts in the barcode, including animated ones (if placed on the display), began to appear:

25.31 KB

Or try to create a suitable graphics context:

But in the end, everything goes to the fact that the encoded information can take absolutely any form - it will be important only to choose the correct decoder:

These are barcodes made using ColorCode technology offered by Colorzip . Reader for this code is currently available only through Japanese operators.

It can be assumed that the main problem will be to distinguish the barcode from the other visual background. It will take something like a pointer or an “this is a barcode” icon. It can be imagined that different coding technologies will also, in turn, be denoted by separate icons, and therefore, will become the next field for designers' battle.
