Microsoft does not need to pay $ 1.5 billion for violating patents on the mp3 format. The San Diego District Court ruled that Microsoft did not infringe patents on its use , thus rejecting all Alcatel-Lucent claims on the matter.
As previously reported , Microsoft lawyers planned to appeal the previous decision in the same court, which was done. Alcatel-Lucent plans to appeal the decision - already in a higher court.
The San Diego District Court’s hearing on Alcatel-Lucent’s other claims against Microsoft will take place in May of this year.
