How to find a site owner to get additional information about the documents posted on it

This question was asked by one of the visitors to my site that hosts the FAQ on academic work. I answered it on the site itself, but just in case I decided to duplicate the answer on Habrahabr too. Suddenly, the locals will correct me or complement me! I think that students looking for information for their term papers on the World Wide Web, it is important to know the answer to this question.

If the information is posted in the print edition, it is easy to find individuals who are somehow responsible for its accuracy (or at least can answer the question of its reliability and primary sources). To do this, just look at the output of the print edition.

In the case of the websites of such persons can also be found. For this purpose, you should contact the specialized information center called the Network Information Center. On his website http://nic.com there is a form that allows you to access the database of persons who have registered domains in all major domain zones. If the site you are interested in is in a domain zone, information about which is not provided by the Network Information Center (for example, in the Mongolian zone .mn), you should contact the organization that manages this domain zone (in our case - .mn). On its website, most likely, you will also find a section dedicated to information about domain owners (indeed, the domain.mn site also has a corresponding form ).

In the input form, you must put the address of the site you are interested in and send a request to the database. As a result, you will receive a response in the form of several dozen lines. Pay attention to the following data:
')
Admin name - the name of the domain administrator;

Admin organization - the name of the organization managing the domain;

Strings from Admin street1 to Admin country - the domain administrator's address;

Admin phone - phone for communication on administrative issues;

Admin Email is an email address for administrative communications.

Now you have all the necessary information in order to contact the owner of the site and check with him how reliable this or that information posted on the site.

But we must not forget that in many domain zones (for example, .com, .org, .net, .info), the information specified by domain registrars is not checked. Attackers can use this for their own purposes, indicating the names of people and organizations for which they claim to be. If the phone number or e-mail address specified during domain registration is non-existent or false, the information provided on the site should be approached with a great deal of skepticism.

In addition, many domain name registrars now offer an additional service during registration, which consists in the fact that the personal data of the person acquiring a particular domain name is hidden without entering the whois database. Information posted on the sites of anonymous users who use this service should also be carefully checked.
