For the international
football application Scores & Video, we collect the best photos from Instagram and Foursquare for each match, it turns out operational and atmospheric tape. We have accumulated several million photos of fans along with their geodata. We decided to find out how their attachments are distributed in space and
which areas of Moscow are truly Spartak .
For implementation, we used our data warehouse in Amazon Redshift (see the
previous post about its structure ), Yandex.Maps and coordinates of city districts from OpenStreetMap. Club preferences are determined by our database of hashtags, data is cleared to get rid of artifacts from other sports. In total, in the infographics of 10 major football cities in Europe and America, for which the most interesting distributions were obtained.
')
For example,
Rome was clearly divided into northern and southern parts .
And in Buenos Aires, among the big teams, the
only area that stands out is
Argentine Juniors (where Maradona started there).
For some large cities (Tehran, Cairo, Tokyo) it was not possible to define clubs qualitatively by hashtags, so we excluded them from the list. Others (Sao Paulo, Lisbon) in OpenStreetMap did not have an administrative division suitable for us. In general, the quality of the data makes us happy: Torpedo fans confirm that Teply Stan is their area (and CSKA fans note that the map as a whole is still red and blue).
We are planning some more infographics based on open data and our user activity database. What sports data would you be interested in?
