Japanese schoolgirls recorded a supernova explosion in the constellation of China

image The sisters Koto and Reno Tomita (12 and 9 years old) recorded a supernova explosion in the constellation Kita, reports Japan Times . Koto has been observing the starry sky since 7 years and is searching for new astronomical objects. The sisters are participating in the KISS project to find the birth of supernovae at the Kiso Observatory at the University of Tokyo.

The sisters Tomito became the stars of the Japanese Astronomical Society, fixing a supernova explosion. Perhaps the youngest of them is the youngest girl to make such a discovery. The explosion recorded December 19, 2014 in the constellation of China. The explosion was confirmed by two senior volunteers of the KISS project, before the discovery was reported to the International Astronomical Union in Paris. On January 23, the star was registered in catalogs under the number SN2014dy.

For Koto Tomito, this was the second discovery - she discovered the first supernova in the constellation Pegasus in August 2014. At the age of 7, the girl received her first telescope, and in 2012 she became the youngest girl to speak at a meeting of the Astronomical Society of Japan for older students. In 2013, Koto joined the KISS project - Kiso Supernova Survey.

A supernova explosion is a process that occurs at the end of the evolution of some stars. In place of the star remains a neutron star or a black hole. Every year, more than 300 flares are recorded worldwide.

In 2011, a 10-year-old schoolgirl from Canada on New Year's Eve discovered a supernova in the Giraffe constellation.
