CrossMount technology, Cloud SandBox service and other MediaTek news at MWC 2015

MediaTek continues to hold presentations of new developments and services at MWC 2015. This mini-digest discusses four news stories from a Taiwanese chip maker: two initiatives by MediaTek Labs, a MediaTek MT3188 chip with support for all wireless charging standards, and technology for combining software and hardware resources from various CrossMount devices.

Immediately several infopodovov related technoincubator MediaTek Labs. As part of the initiative, the Partner Connect project was announced, it translates MediaTek's previous words about the support of the participants of the “laboratory” by the company's partners into a very concrete form. The Taiwanese chip maker will assist the developers of wearable electronics and the “Internet of things” in cooperation with the necessary organizations among its network of partners. Collaboration will be expressed in the tips on the development, selection of modules and assistance in the serial production of models.

On the website labs.mediatek.com page is already open, dedicated to the program MediaTek Labs Partner Connect . To participate in it, first of all, you must provide information about your project in the Device Solutions Catalog section, after which both technical and business components will be checked. In parallel, MediaTek launched the Cloud SandBox cloud platform, which solves the following problems for MediaTek Labs members:

The platform offers a free tool for working with data at the stage of prototyping devices. In Cloud SandBox, you can manage multiple projects from one profile.

Along with the news about the latest chipsets for smartphones and tablets , MediaTek noted the introduction of the chip with one single purpose - to provide wireless charging. MediaTek MT3188 is notable for supporting all major standards for this type of charging for mobile devices. The use of new items with a cross-platform configuration is possible in various mobile equipment - from wearable electronics to tablets and smartphones. The exact date of appearance of the first products with MediaTek MT3188 is unknown, but the chip is already in mass production and is completely ready for installation in gadgets.

The MediaTek MT3188 provides support for the magnetic resonance wireless charging A4WP, as well as induction charging Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and Power Matters Alliance (PMA). If we talk about specific versions of the standards, then this is A4WP BSS 1.2, Qi 1.1.2 and PMA 1.0. Already passed certification in the necessary regulatory bodies, and more precisely A4WP, WPC and PMA. According to MediaTek, the novelty will not lead to a serious increase in the cost of devices with her on board. In any case, if compared with devices with single-mode resonant solutions.

Finally, the latest news. MediaTek developed the CrossMount technology, which, based on the UPnP protocol, allows you to exchange hardware and software resources between TVs, tablets and smartphones. First of all, we are talking about devices running Android and Linux. Communication is supported either through a wireless access point or in peer-to-peer Wi-Fi Direct mode. Help any cloud services are required. As an example, MediaTek cites the situation when the microphone of the smartphone will be used for voice search on the TV, and headphones connected to the phone - to transmit sound from the Smart TV.

To standardize this technology, MediaTek founded the CrossMount Alliance to bring together interested partners. The first partners will be Alcatel OneTouch, Chang-hong and Lenovo, and innovation can be assessed in smartphones and tablets in 2015.
