Hi, Geektimes! At the MWC 2015 exhibition, along with announcements of new chipsets, MediaTek announced the launch of its own venture capital fund
MediaTek Ventures . Its capital is 300 million dollars, the money will be allocated to finance start-ups in mainland China, Europe, Japan and North America. The central office of the investment unit is located in Taiwan, in the city of Hsinchu. The priority investment areas of MediaTek Ventures are network infrastructure and services, semiconductor technologies and the Internet of Things.
The main objective of the venture fund is to form ecosystems with partners "
around MediaTek solutions and technologies, including communications, computing, online media and analytics ." In the meantime
, a section on the new fund
has already been opened on the MediaTek website. As a mission of this enterprise, it is indicated, among other things, the desire to make people's lives better with the help of technology.
The advantages of MediaTek Ventures are help that goes far beyond the ordinary financing. This should be understood as this: MediaTek specialists are ready to build startups interaction with their key partners in the field of high technology around the world, give advice and share experience with novice developers.
The MediaTek initiative is a logical step for a relatively young company that has already managed to become the second largest producer of chipsets for smartphones in the world. For example, Intel Capital was opened in 1991, Qualcomm Ventures - in 2000, these and other funds of the largest IT-companies are behind many globally successful projects. There are few details about MediaTek Ventures, but the second details of the investment strategy and development plans of the fund will be revealed in the second half of the year.
