ASUS Fonepad 7 Tablet Review (FE375CG)

In the ecosystem of mini-plates, models with a diagonal of 7 inches can be called the most balanced. They are not as close in size to modern large smartphones as 6-inch tablets, but at the same time they are much more comfortable in hand than 8-inch tablets. At the same time, the screen is convenient enough for any tasks - surfing, reading, playing games and even watching movies. And today I want to talk about the representative of the class of "sevens" - ASUS Fonepad 7 (FE375CG).

Complete set and appearance

Included is only a compact charger with a USB-cable, everything is standard.

The review got a tablet in white, but only 4 colors in the line.

The frame on the sides of the display is quite narrow, so that the device can be held with one hand, even if you have a medium-sized brush. Above and below are long nets of speakers. Along the perimeter is a thin silver aluminum edging, echoing the color of the logo and speaker nets.

To the left of the upper speaker is a proximity sensor, and to the right is the front camera.

The entire back of the tablet is a monolithic plastic bath. The surface is matte, moderately rough. Thanks to the rounded ends, the device fits well in the palm of your hand and feels a little less than it actually is.

The volume and on / off buttons are located on the right side. On top is a microUSB connector. The camera lens protrudes slightly above the surface.

But the audio connector is placed on the bottom. To some, such a decision may seem strange, after all, it’s more familiar to us when headphones are connected from above.

A long cap on the left side of the tablet hides three slots at once: one microSD and two microSIM.

Display

7-inch IPS-display has a resolution of 1280x800. With such a diagonal, this is more than enough to not cling to large pixels, their density is 213 dpi.

Thanks to the IPS matrix, the color rendition turned out to be balanced and highly accurate, without pronounced distortion. An oleophobic coating is applied to the protective glass, but it helps, I must say, not too much. Brightness is not too big, so the bright sun can cause inconvenience.

Cameras

This model uses the highest quality front camera in the entire line of tablets Fonepad 7 - as much as 1.9 megapixels. The reason is quite obvious, the fashion for selfies is in full swing. And the main camera remained the same pyatimegapikselnoy. Of course, in both cases, it is difficult to talk about outstanding image quality; these cameras are designed for filling social networks, and not for highly artistic photography.

Software

The tablet is running Android 4.4.2. It uses a graphic shell ASUS ZenUI, made in a trendy flat style. Partly even ascetic.

The device pre-installed such traditional applications ASUS, as SuperNote (advanced utility for creating notes), Splendid (fine-tuning the color of the display), Story (organizing notes and photos into a kind of connected chain) and assorted programs to establish communication and exchange data with other devices (Party Link, PC Link, Remote Link, Share Link).

Wireless connection

The tablet is equipped with a cellular communication module and is able to work in 2G and 3G networks. LTE is not supported. As in the overwhelming majority of dual-card gadgets, only one of the SIM-cards can work at a time. The second at this time is in standby mode.

In any case, this inconvenience is not so important, because using a 7-inch tablet as a phone is rather inconvenient. Yes, and looks funny from the outside. So here it makes sense to use two SIM cards, say, from the point of view of using the most favorable tariffs for the mobile Internet from different operators. For example, in roaming.

Performance

The FE375CG was also one of the first in the Fonepad 7 line to receive a 64-bit processor. In this case, this is a quad-core Intel Atom, operating at a frequency of up to 1.83 GHz. Also under the "hood" there is 1 GB of RAM. For storage, the tablet carries onboard 16 GB, but only about 11 of them are available to the user. In principle, there will be enough for a couple of movies, and if there is not enough, you can insert a 64 GB microSD card.

In terms of performance, the Fonepad 7 (FE375CG) can be attributed to fairly confident middling. He cheerfully pulls the game of various genres and does not cause complaints when watching HD-films, not to mention surfing. However, it cannot be said that the tablet “goes after gas” when working in the graphical shell of Android. It does not slow down, but also hurries to skip at the same second to press the press, there is some very slight delay. I guess this is not a question of iron performance, but a feature of Android itself.

Duration of work

Battery charging lasted just over 3 hours. With active surfing with watching video clips every 20 minutes, the tablet worked for about 9 hours. Also for about 5 hours I managed to watch a movie on it. In all cases, the brightness was in automatic mode, and the slider was approximately in the middle.

Conclusion

This tablet can be called a universal and unpretentious workhorse. Seven inches of diagonal is enough for most tasks. The same can be said about the resolution of 1280x800, here it is more than appropriate. If it turns out that this is not enough for you, then you don’t need a mini-tablet, it’s better to take a full-sized tablet or laptop together with a smartphone right away.

The gadget is reliable, unpretentious and devoid of too sensitive to the external effects of design elements. It can safely throw in a backpack or bag. Probably, it is also possible to drop, although already with fears. Low and not on the tiled floor. In general, this is a good choice of mini tablet for EDC (every day carry), that is, for everyday use. With him it will be equally convenient to go on a business trip, to a lecture or just sit in a cafe.

Also note that the simpler model Fonepad 7 - FE375CXG is widely represented on the market.
