A new contract for the supply of Russian titanium products for Boeing

image The Russian metallurgical company VSMPO-AVISMA has signed a new contract with Boeing for the supply of titanium products. The head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, announced this at the IDEX defense industry exhibition in Abu Dhabi. In addition, according to Chemezov, the companies are going to sign a contract to build a second joint production facility for the processing of titanium products. The memorandum on the creation of the second joint production was signed in 2013. It was originally planned that it will be ready by 2014.

The collaboration between VSMPO-AVISMA and Boeing began in 1993. And the first joint venture of the companies began work in 2009. In the same year, the first new aircraft of the airline, the Boeing 787 "Dreamliner", broke off the ground in 15 years. In order to facilitate the aircraft in it were used composite materials. However, such materials cannot coexist directly with steel and aluminum due to the risk of corrosion. In this regard, it is necessary to use titanium, a metal with a high resistance to corrosion.

VSMPO-AVISMA is the only full-cycle titanium processing company in the world. It is also the world's largest producer of titanium. In addition to Boeing, his clients include EADS, Embraer, UTAS, Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, Rolls-Royce plc, Safran SA, Pratt & Whitney. Parts made of titanium and aluminum, created in this company, go to industry, aircraft industry, engine building, and the production of rockets. Among the products there are products for medical needs and consumer goods.
