Astronauts prepare the ISS for the arrival of commercial ships in 2017
This frame shows Barry Wilmore going to outer space on Saturday morning, February 21, 2015, to prepare the International Space Station for the arrival in 2017 of Boeing and SpaceX spacecraft with commercial crews. NASA astronauts Barry Wilmore and Terry Wörts stretched ninety meters of cable from the required two hundred thirty meters on Saturday, the rest is planned to be held in the next two exits to space.
American astronauts on Saturday spent six hours and forty-one minutes in outer space. During this time, they connected eight power and data cables to a sealed RMA-2 adapter in the Harmony segment to prepare it for the arrival of the Boeing dock in the summer of 2017.
The dock port is used for docking manned spacecraft manufactured by Boeing and SpaceX . Commercial capsules are planning to launch in 2017 from Cape Canaveral , where SpaceX Ilona Mask received a launch pad No. 13 for a five-year lease. ')
In 2017, SpaceX will send to the ISS the passenger version of the Dragon spacecraft, intended for seven astronauts. The cargo version of the Dragon has already made several successful flights to the station.
This was the first spacewalk for astronaut Terry Wörts, who arrived at the station in November 2014, and Barry Wilmore worked outside the station for the second time. A total of 185 spacewalks were conducted in the station’s history. On the astronauts' back one can see the SAFER jetpack, which they learn to use with the help of virtual reality .
