Skolkovo created the first composite 3D-printer in Russia

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology has created a prototype of Russia's first 3D printer capable of printing with composite materials , reports Lenta . The device is built on the basis of the Italian platform, and the strength of printed samples is twice as high as that of the Mark One . The technology is being prepared for patenting.

In 2014, 3D printing was added to the methods of manufacturing composite products: MarkForged introduced Mark One at SolidWorks 2014 in San Diego, which can print with carbon fiber, fiberglass and nylon.

This year Skoltech announced the first in Russia 3D printer for printing composite materials. It is built on the basis of the Italian platform costing five hundred euros, and the know-how of scientists lies in an extruder of its own design and manufacture and special preparation of materials. Scientists have to work on their own platform. The press service of the institute reports that the strength of the samples is more than four hundred megapascals, which is twice as high as that of the printer from MarkForged. Scientists expect to improve this figure in two or three times. For comparison: the strength of structural aluminum alloys - from two hundred to three hundred megapascals.

The director of the Skoltech Center for Advanced Designs Zafer Gyurdal appreciated the new device in the case of bringing it to the sales stage at 100-150 thousand rubles. The price of Mark One is about five thousand dollars, which at the current rate is more than three hundred thousand rubles.
