Selfie 2.0 - print yourself in 3D

The American company DOOB-3D offers a new service for visitors to their offices. After a three-dimensional scan, anyone can get a copy of themselves in the form of a plastic figure printed on a 3D printer. The figures are very good realistic and elaborate details.



For the manufacture of souvenirs used high-tech "booth" with 54 cameras Canon EOS Rebel T5i and color 3D-printers worth about $ 80,000. Cameras, located on 6 pieces in 9 rows, simultaneously photograph a person from different sides, giving 54 18-megapixel images. Special software processes them and produces a three-dimensional model, which experts, if necessary, modify manually.

The company has three centers with 3D printers. Printing comes at a speed of about 28 millimeters per hour, so printing even the smallest figure takes several hours. In connection with the possible queues, the client receives his figure in the mail from two to eight weeks after taking the picture.



Employees of these centers admit that many clients show imagination when posing - some even undress entirely. The company has nothing against it, but it refuses anyone who wants to edit a virtual copy of their shape before printing.




A small figure of 10 cm, which is about the size of small collectible figures from films, etc., will cost $ 95. Different sizes are offered, up to 35 cm, but it will already be more expensive - $ 695. Those who love themselves very much will be able to agree on a full-size copy - but this is already a five-digit amount. Currently, 3D scanners are located in the cities of Düsseldorf, Tokyo, Los Angeles and New York.
