One of the challenges for security services is the detection of explosives and other contraband. Airports and railway stations spend large sums on equipment , including fixed and hand-held detectors. No matter how convenient such devices are, they are controlled by man.

GE Global Research is working on a new low-cost method for detecting hazardous substances. The device can be installed anywhere, it does not require recharging and control from the person. Such a device the size of a postage stamp can replace a full-size scanner of explosives, but it can also be glued into cargo containers, trolleys for transporting baggage to the aircraft, on the baggage claim line, to government buildings.

A special coating is applied to the RFID tag on one side, it is white in the photo. GE Global Research does not provide details, it is only known that they work on materials that are very sensitive to explosives and oxidizing agents, as well as to other hazardous substances. In the future, similar tags are planned to be made to detect spores or bacteria.
