February 11, 2015 marks the 5th anniversary of the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) space observatory in orbit. The system photographs the light 24 hours a day, and most recently the 100 millionth image of the Sun hit the Earth. However, many pictures are not only very interesting from the point of view of science, but also very spectacular.
Thanks to the station, the inhabitants of the Earth were able to get the most detailed images of flares on the Sun, including the most powerful moments of the luminous activity. Among all the hundreds of millions of images there are very important images that allow you to better understand the essence of the processes occurring inside our star and on its surface. NASA scientists decided to make a video in which all the most important and interesting moments of observing the star in all 5 years are collected.
Thanks to the pictures (they are taken in different spectra), scientists can understand what led to the appearance of a particular flash, a spot or other phenomena. Every day, the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) generates about 1.5 terabytes of data, and half the data is delivered to the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly. These are approximately 57,600 images every day.
