Bionic prostheses DARPA: new advances

As you know, DARPA is developing not only robotic bulls, many other projects are being implemented here. For example, bionic prostheses, which can be called revolutionary, and this is true. The artificial limbs created by DARPA specialists weigh about the same as the ordinary hand of an adult. And such a prosthesis is controlled by electrical signals from the nerve endings of the rest of the limb - electrodes are implanted here, which transmit a signal to the prosthesis.

With the help of such a prosthesis, volunteers participating in the tests can perform operations that are not available with any other, even the most perfect, prosthesis of another manufacturer. The video below shows how a volunteer could even pinch grapes from a bunch by sending berries in his mouth. Yes, one has to concentrate on such an operation, but no other prosthesis can perform the same. The system is called the DEKA Arm System.

According to the developers, such a prosthesis is suitable for people who have almost completely lost their limbs - there is no development of “elbow” or “wrist” prostheses. According to representatives of the project, the prosthesis, fully ready for use, will be ready by 2016. The price of such a device is not publicized, but it is clear that it simply cannot be low - very “thin” technologies are involved here.
