The cat simply can not believe what happenedThere are already a lot of stories from YouTube and the protection of the rights of recording studios. Here and
video recording of singing birds , and a
7-hour recording of a video conference , which YouTube completely deprived of the musical sequence due to the melody that sounded during the break, and much more. Now another one has been added to all these curious cases: YouTube automatically marked the video with a cat's 12-second purr like a video with copyright infringement.
The cat, whose name is Phantom, is dissatisfied with this decision, and is going to sue. In principle, YouTube’s automatic scripts that detect copyright infringement are difficult to blame for something - a section of audio matched a section of a copyrighted musical composition, and the script marks the video as a violation. But the case with the murmur of a cat stands out even from a number of similar ones.
The author of the video recorded the purr of his cat (12 seconds), and looped the record for an hour. After some time, the author saw this warning:
')
As a result, it turned out that the murmur of the Phantom cat violates the rights of EMI Music Publishing and PRS. In particular, YouTube robots considered that the “song” of a cat is similar to the song “Focus”, the rights to which belong to the above companies.
The video was not deleted, but, according to the author of the video, its monetization was blocked. The owner of the Phantom cat filed a complaint, challenging the decision of YouTube, and after a while the complaint was dropped.
Now the Phantom cat is considering the possibility of initiating judicial review with a claim for moral damages.
