Another beautiful photo was taken recently by the Hubble telescope. The
picture of the star cluster SDSS J1038 + 4849 looks like parts of the face: eyes, a nose, and a friendly smile.
In fact, the eyes are two very bright galaxies, and the surrounding arcs are created by gravitational lensing.
Galaxies create the so-called gravitational lens, which by its gravitational field bends light from distant stars.

If the source is symmetrical, then in some cases we observe the effect as in the photo: Einstein ring.
Gravitational lenses are extremely useful for science, because they allow us to consider very distant galaxies. It helps to literally look back in time, in the early stage of the formation of the universe.
