Boston Dynamics showed the Spot robot - the lighter and more mobile version of BigDog
The company Boston Dynamics has shown a new four-legged robot Spot. The size of the novelty is with a large dog, the robot weighs approximately 70 kilograms. Spot differs from its older brother BigDog in size - the weight of the latter is 110 kilograms. The same four hydraulic limbs remain, the head with sensors (most likely, it is a lidar like that of BigDog). Spot can climb the slope and the stairs, descend from the hills, maintain balance and respond to external disturbances. Despite the dog's size and nickname, gait "Spot" resembles a horse. At the very beginning of the video, we are clearly shown that this is one of the smallest representatives of the arsenal of Boston Dynamics. The robot quickly moves the horse trot and maintains the pace at the level of the person running next to it.
In the video, the kid is insulted: the robot is kicked out of all forces. Boston Dynamics does not comment on why the company so fond of pushing robots, for example, shocks are present in commercials with BigDog and Atlas . This is probably the most obvious and at the same time fairly simple demonstration of the stability and balance of walking cars. ')
Spot is designed for use both indoors and outdoors. Probably, its carrying capacity is far less than 150 kilograms, which a larger BigDog can carry. Spot compact sizes may be suitable for search and rescue, reconnaissance and access to disaster areas. The video shows that he may be more agile than his senior brethren. Detailed information about the project on the website of Boston Dynamics yet.
