Paid comments on the site as a means of dealing with Internet trolls

The Jewish online magazine Tabletmag plans to deal with Internet trolls in a very original way: the magazine introduces a paid subscription to comments . Media executives believe that no one will pay for the right to leave a “poisonous” comment, so only respectable readers will leave paid comments.

At the same time, the monthly fee for comments is not so low: $ 2 per day, $ 18 per month, $ 180 per year. Honestly, it is hard to believe that even “good readers” will queue up at the cashier for the right to leave a comment. But the experiment is not yet complete, so it’s too early to talk about the results.

According to the editor of the magazine Alana Newhouse, there are many different people on the Web, many have quite constructive discussions, but some are trolling, offending and insulting other people. And a purely nominal fee for the right to leave comments, according to Newhouse, will leave the trolls aside - they will not pay for sure. As a result, ordinary people will be able to have constructive conversations and discuss within the limits of decency.

A person who does not pay for comments will be able to leave his opinion about the material on social resources, where news and journal articles are broadcast, but on the site itself access to free comments will be denied. With the authors of posts, people who can not pay can be contacted via e-mail, Facebook or Twitter.

The editorial board in its appeal to users stated that users can now communicate without any problems, without fear of colliding with trolling. In a month, hopefully, the results of such a step will be visible and understandable.
