Figures in Excel: Introduction to the raster

Many people perceive Excel as an endless collection of boring rows and columns. In fact, Excel can be used in a more positive way.

Recently I came across an article about a Japanese artist, Tatsuo Horiuchi , who paints fantastic things using standard Excel drawing tools.

Tatsuo first attracted attention in 2006 at the Excel Autoshape Art. His work, which was much higher than its competitors, won first place and was acquired by the local museum Gunma Museum of Art.

In the wake of the acquired enthusiasm, I also decided to add Excel to the beautiful one. The thought that came to my head, was bribed by its simplicity. The sheets of the latest versions of the program contain tables of 16384 by 1048576 cells, in other words, one can imagine that the table is a raster image of 16384 x 1048576 pixels in size, where the cell is a pixel. Moreover, any cell can be filled with any color of the 32-bit palette.

The first tentative steps in getting to know Excel with raster began with small images of the heroes of the Dendy game console, 15x15 pixels in size. The drawings turned out to be surprisingly attractive.

Excel did not react at all, but waited patiently for what else its owner would take. Well, and the owner, nothing more original came to mind, how to continue the epic of the revival of the heroes of the once-beloved game. So, Excel has learned what Mario looks like ...

... and then Megamen.

The apogee of my work was the character of my favorite cartoon, because of which the children, coming from school, turned on the TV in anticipation of the next continuation of the series.
