Musical piracy is almost eliminated in Norway

The latest case study from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Manufacturers (IFPI) in Norway showed that only 4% of young people under the age of 30 use illegal methods of producing music. Instead, most prefer streaming services such as Spotify or Tidal. The head of the Norwegian IFPI division, Marte Thorsby, (Marte Thorsby) said: " We have created services that are better and friendlier than illegal ones ... Over the past five years, we have practically eliminated the illegal exchange of music ." In 2009, 80% of young Norwegians illegally downloaded music.

Since November 2014, the main indicator of the American music industry, Billboard magazine, has started to take into account data from streaming services (Spotify, Beats Music, Google Play and Xbox music) when compiling the hit parade of artists. Every 1500 listenings of a track on any of the services, the statistical company Nielsen SoundScan counts as selling a single album.
