French court forbade to name Nutella's child

A court in the city of Valenciennes in the north of France forbade parents to give the name Nutella to a newborn girl. The case was considered in the absence of parents, and a complaint for a claim was presented by an employee of the state registration department who issued the birth certificate.

At the same time, the court forbade another married couple to name the child Fraise (“strawberry” in French). For both names, the decision of the court noted that such a name "contradicts the interests of the child." Regarding Nutella, it is separately stated that such a name “only causes thoughts, how to tease and humiliate him”.

The judge also noted that Nutella ™ is a registered trademark, although this may not be a formal reason for canceling a name.

Since Nutella's parents did not attend court hearings, the judge himself decided to rename the girl Ella. Fraise's parents agreed to the more traditional name Fraisine.

According to French law, parents have the right to choose any name, "if it does not contradict the interests of the child."

Perhaps in America the legislation on children's names is not so strict. For example, the fact of the existence of a trademark did not prevent Gwyneth Paltrow from naming Apple (Apple).

In general, there is no uniform legislation on the name of children in the world: there are at least 12 different legal norms in different countries.
