When scientists sent Opportunity and Spirit to Mars, no one could even think that the rovers would work for so long. And although Spirit is no longer working, Opportunity still travels around the red sands of Mars. In honor of his 11-year stay on the Red Planet, this rover climbed to the highest point (in 7 years) and took a series of photos.

NASA experts made a panorama of these images and videos that can be seen in this post. When shooting using the camera Pancam, just created for panoramic shots. The point on which the rover climbed is part of the Endeavor crater, this section rises above the rest of the surface by about 130 meters. Only in 2008, the rover visited a higher point in the area - then it was located on the crater Victoria.

The total length of the path that the rover has traveled since its arrival on Mars (January 25, 2004) is now 41.5 kilometers.

Of course, such a long period of stay on another planet could not but affect the general condition of the apparatus. Now Opportunity has significant problems with flash memory . Now scientists are working to solve these problems, and to optimize the operation of the device, based on new conditions.
