The concept of a wind generator in the form of a tree for placement in urban environments is presented.
The French company NewWind introduced the concept of a windmill in the form of a tree. The wind power generator called Arbre à Vent (wind tree) with a height of three meters is equipped with 72 vertical mini-turbines that can operate even from weak wind (7 km / h or 2 m / s). For the inhabitants of some particularly windy areas of our planet, the view of numerous wind turbines that convert wind energy into electrical energy does not seem to be something fantastic anymore. However, wind turbines have drawbacks: to achieve efficiency, they must be made gigantic, they are quite noisy at work and do not look particularly aesthetically pleasing. In addition, windmills begin to operate with a wind speed of at least 13-15 km / h.

The windmill is quiet and looks like a tree. Engineer Julia Revue talks about the project : “In the cities, the wind is not strong, but very turbulent. Even a weak wind will be suitable for these turbines to start, and together they give out about 3 kW, which can be used for heating or lighting a house, or charging an electric car. ”
The cost of the prototype was about $ 35,000, and soon it will be on display in Paris. Production is scheduled to begin in March. Although the device is quite expensive, according to the designers, architects who are planning to build such turbines into buildings are interested in this topic.
The size and high cost of these generators do not yet promise their immediate and wide distribution, however, we can hope that they will inspire other engineers and inventors.
